COMMUNITIES - Mentoring & Volunteering

Head4Arts aims to support the continuing professional development of artists at all levels of their career by providing the following opportunities:

MENTORING

Where possible, Head4Arts will arrange mentoring opportunities for emerging artists to shadow experienced community arts practitioners in order to gain valuable hands-on experience of working in a participatory setting. In addition, Head4Arts is involved in a number of initiatives such as ArtsWorks Cymru and the Community Artists Training Scheme – both of which aim to promote best practice in participatory arts and support the development of aspiring practitioners.

VOLUNTEERING

Volunteering with Head4Arts offers opportunities for individuals to develop new skills, build on existing knowledge and encounter new experiences. Where possible, we will tailor volunteering opportunities to suit individual needs and interests – this could include a placement in the Head4Arts office assisting with tasks such as marketing and administration or supporting specific projects by taking a register at a weekly class or stewarding at an event.

Testimonial

Head4Arts have been at the start of a chain of events that have helped my career as a freelance dance and drama artist and without their input I believe I would not be where I am today. After our first meeting I was able to volunteer in the office 1 day a week. Everyone was very welcoming and I was given opportunities to be part of projects, to shadow other artists and network. Two years on, I pursued the advice of needing my own transport to work around the valleys and now have a car, have regular dance and drama classes in community and school settings and through community artist training, have the confidence and knowledge to work as a freelancer.
