Valleys Girl
The Valleys Girl project engaged over 1,000 community members in the creation of a bilingual community play which was staged in four venues across the Head for Arts patch.
Each performance used drama, dance, music and digital media to represent the life of a “Valleys Girl”. Every story portrayed in the performances had been generated in outreach sessions held in local communities.
The project brought people together from a variety of backgrounds and age groups, with outreach workshops and rehearsals being held in schools and youth clubs, Welsh language groups, libraries, mother and toddler groups, sewing groups and a day centre for people with multiple disabilities.
Participant comment:
“Valleys Girl gave me the opportunity to interact with young people with an interest in the arts – as an eighty year old woman it’s great to meet young people with the same interests as me.”
