What We Do – Transforming Lives Through the Arts

Established in April 2008, Head4Arts is a community arts organisation which operates in the South East Wales Valleys region, covering the county boroughs of Blaenau Gwent, Caerphilly, Merthyr Tydfil and Torfaen.

Head4Arts is a member of the Arts Council of Wales’ national Arts Portfolio and is supported by a consortium of partners: Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council, Caerphilly County Borough Council, Well-being@Merthyr, Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council, Torfaen Leisure Trust.

We work across all art forms with people of all ages to provide high quality, inspirational arts experiences that introduce participants to new art forms and unlock their creative potential. This includes delivering projects, workshops, events, drop-in activities, training sessions, international collaborations and, occasionally, spectacular regional performances.

Our work takes us to community centres, housing estates, schools, hospitals, local parks, heritage sites, youth centres, theatres, libraries, residential homes – in fact any location where we have the opportunity to connect with people and encourage participation in the creative arts.

We believe in the transformational quality of the arts and their ability to simulate positive change in local communities. We work with partner organisations from a range of sectors, such as community development, youth services, criminal justice and the health sector, using the arts to achieve a variety of social outcomes. Head4Arts commissions freelance creative practitioners to deliver its diverse programme of work. This enables Head4Arts to offer memorable experiences in all art forms, bringing in support from innovative, imaginative professionals who are specialists in their field.
